I went and saw Adam Green and Binki Shapiro last night. For those not familiar, he's the guy from The Moldy Peaches and has also done quite a bit of solo stuff and she's the girl from Little Joy. They just came out with a new album and it's really good. Listen!

I found out about the show last minute and was pretty excited about it, A. because it was going to be in a smaller venue and those shows always seem to be better, more intimate and B. because I've seen some of his sweet dance moves in his music videos (I was going to post one but I couldn't find the one I was thinking of).
Needless to say, Adam Green and his performance was everything I hoped. Binki was lovely and brought a really nice dynamic to the set. I love her voice. Girl sings real good and she doesn't get enough credit for that in Little Joy. But Adam was clearly the star of the show here. They started off welcoming the crowd to Seattle and playing a few songs from their new album with Adam cracking all sorts of dry jokes between songs. He's actually really hilarious. It was great and entertaining and everyone in the crowd was falling in love with their charm but it really got going when Adam set down the guitar, Binki picked hers up and they played some of Adams older, solo work. He just sang and danced and rocked. He has these really fantastic dance moved that are a little awkward but he does them with such confidence, no one questions it.
I have to say, I was a little surprised they played such a small venue. Apparently Adam Green isn't as popular as I thought but I'm glad I got to see them so up close and personal. I love his music. I hope you guys look him up and spread the word because he totally deserves more popularity.

Local Natives came out with a new album yesterday, Hummingbird.  I've listened to it once and but I wasn't able to give it my full attention so all I'll say for now is that it was good but I think I like their first one better.


Also, I bought my ticket for their show on April 29th at The Neptune. I'm really looking forward to it. They're playing here on the 26th too but it sold out. I'll let you know how it goes.

As a self-proclaimed Grinch of all holidays, it makes sense that I don't care for Halloween. Okay, I don't despise it or anything. I'm just not into fun-sized chocolate bars, pumpkin-carving, or dressing up. (A few New Year's Eves ago, I even went to bed at 10:00). I just don't like holidays.*

When I thought about making a Halloween playlist, the Grinch in me told me to think again. Without further ado, I present to you an Autumn-themed playlist, without any of the trappings of annoying greeting card holidays.




*On a side note, I hate Facebook statuses about early Christmas music, and I HATE seeing Christmas items in stores before Halloween.

I'm (not) sorry if you're tired of hearing about Bright Eyes. So, Conor Oberst used to be/still is in a band called Desaparecidos. They are a little noisy (in a good way) and pretty rockin'. I played air guitar non-ironically while listening to their first and only album Read Music/Speak Spanish in the car the other day. I was by myself, too. That's how great it is. Anyway, that album came out in 2002 and they kind of disappeared sometime after that.

They recently started playing together again and even recorded a few songs. One of their songs, "Marikkkopa," is about deportation and one mean county sheriff in Arizona. It's a good song. Conor Oberst plays a large role in Sound Strike, which is a group of artists boycotting Arizona because of SB1070.

Bright Eyes is a polarizing band. It seems that people either really love them or hate them. I don't care about the people who hate them. They are my favorite band, and I want to lie in a bath of Bright Eyes. What does that mean? It means that I want Bright Eyes to float all around me (not the actual musicians-- the music). Anyway, Conor Oberst is touring right now, and he is sharing some great music with people who aren't me. He played two new songs (temporarily titled "You Are Your Mom's" and "Kick") the last couple nights, and they are refreshing. Their last album was spectacular, but this is taking it back a little bit. New mixed with old.
